Electronic Assistive Technology Service
The Electronic Assistive Technology service (EATS) is based in the Bristol Centre for Enablement and covers the Somerset area.
Electronic assistive technology enables people who are struggling at home due to an injury, illness, or disability to be more independent at home. As long as the person has the ability to still move one part of their body (for example, movement of one finger, able to tap a foot, have head control, can still suck and blow from the mouth, etc) the service can assess and provide technology for use at home.
This will help the person to carry out tasks independently, such as answer their phone or open their own curtains or front door. The service can also provide equipment to help individuals to use a computer if they can no longer use a standard keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen.
These systems can also be used by the individual to create a computer generated voice or their own voice if they have used voice banking.
Referrals are available to anyone in Somerset and must be completed by a healthcare professional on behalf of the person (with consent).
Early referrals are recommended for any individual with a deteriorating condition that effects their motor abilities e.g Motor Neurone Disease.
