Somerset Treatment Escalation Plan - eSTEP Digital
The eSTEP form is the same as the STEP form - the only difference is that the eSTEP is stored securely in SIDeR+ and is therefore available to all professionals involved in the patient’s care, including the South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT).
SIDeR+ enables this TEP to be stored and shared securely via an eSTEP (electronic STEP) and a copy is automatically sent to the patient’s GP record every time an eSTEP is created/updated. This means the existing decision can simply be checked and/or updated by clinicians, without the need to get everyone around the table again every time a person is admitted to hospital.
The eSTEP can be printed and looks the same as the paper STEP form.
When an eSTEP has been completed (by the GP or during a previous admission) and the patient is admitted to hospital, the incredibly difficult decision around resuscitation has already been made, with her family involved if appropriate.
The eSTEP technology has been live in SIDeR+ since September 2024.
